In October 2016, the SESAR Deployment Manager (SDM) was mandated by the EC to act as the DLS implementation project manager. In this role, the SDM developed “a DLS Recovery plan” defining all the concrete and relevant activities required to be undertaken in the ground and airborne domains to achieve, in the right sequence, a synchronized DLS deployment in Europe.

As a result of an open call for tender launched on 4 May 2018, the SDM has selected Paris Lodron University of Salzburg to provide an update of the VDL Mode 2 Capacity and Performance Analysis performed by SESAR Joint Undertaking. Paris Lodron University of Salzburg will therefore assess for what period the current proposed data link technical evolution model will provide adequate capacity to support forecast aviation growth. The study should be conducted and the results delivered within the next 8 months.
