A certain number of completed projects are highlighted as it was already possible to provide detailed information on specific benefits brought by these projects. In time, SESAR Deployment Manager will provide such detailed information for every completed project.
Description
This Implementation Project was completed on 5th February 2020 under the coordination of SESAR Deployment Manager.
This project aimed at equipping and upgrading the Ryanair fleet avionics to be able to operate with an Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1) as defined in the ELSA study.
The Enhanced Large Scale ATN deployment (ELSA) consortium performed a technical study, and identified a viable solution to the performance issues of data-link communications - together with the method to achieve it. The SESAR Deployment Manager was mandated by the European Commission to act as Data Link Services (DLS) Implementation Project Manager based on the ELSA recommendations.
This ATN B1 communication is the infrastructure created to facilitate airborne datalink messaging between aircraft and air traffic control.
The benefit of this ATN B1 network is based on two things:
Higher speed data transmissions/minimised message latency
Lower instances of provider aborts
The ATN B1multifrequency avionics have been tested against “best in class” criteria. The Implementation project has contributed to the end of the certification.
